Land Acknowledgement
In the spirit of truth and reconciliation, we acknowledge with gratitude and respect that Victim Services Haldimand Norfolk Mississaugas of the Credit is located on the traditional territories of the Anishinaabe and Haudenosaunee peoples. The Dish protects this land with One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, an agreement to share and care for the lands, air, and waters around the Great Lakes. We honour the longstanding relationships between the community and the land.
We further acknowledge this land is covered by the Between the Lakes Purchase, 1792, between the Crown and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. Further, we respect and affirm the inherent and Treaty Rights of all Indigenous Peoples across this land. We have and will continue to honour the commitments to self-determination and sovereignty of Indigenous Nations and Peoples.
As a victim service serving the Indigenous community, we are committed to learning from and supporting Indigenous communities. We strive to understand our shared history and take meaningful actions beyond acknowledgment. This involves recognizing the enduring impacts of colonialism and working towards trust and healing in partnership with all Indigenous Peoples. We recognize that we must teach the rich history of this land and uphold and uplift the voice and values of these Nations.
